About This is inside the shrine for Japan's war dead. I love the contrast between the gnarled tree and the wooden shrine buildings. The colours are clearly autumnal.

Mary, it was my dog who first encouraged my interest in trees. Trees are big with dogs y'know... As I walked him morning after morning (from when he was just old enough to go out on a lead and EVERYTHING in the world was new to him), I noticed how beautiful and varied the trees were. I have dozens and dozens of "tree" shots from the last year or so and you're not the first person to say I seem to have a thing about them. I'm also old enough to have lived through quite a bit of history, so yes, I guess I sometimes betray an interest in it... {g}

Antonella, I am so pleased that you chose to make me a "friend" as I had felt the same about your attitude to photography, i.e., the love of the mechanical and for film and a similar desire to keep PhotoShop (in my case PaintShop Pro) to a more subservient role. And I loved the wide variety of your photographs and made you one of MY friends! It will be good to see all the new things you post... This "friend" system is a powerful glue to keep the usefilm community closely knit, don't you think?

Not sure the vertical pan is the best view of this subject, the tree branches get 'messy' just after where that main branche doubles back. I think I'd crop just above that.

Love the rest of it though, like looking out from a room through a half opened door.

The contrast between the living, gnarled tree and the dead, orderly lumber of the man-made structures is very interesting. The light is great. I also love the way in which the one branch sort of provides a "base" for the roof structure.

Hi Roger, thanks for all your wonderful comments much appreciated...this is a beautiful shot. I like the crop and the subject. The colors have the fresh look of cool air no humidity in your air. Very warm here and humid....well done, regards roger

Roger,

Looking through your work, I've concluded that the images of yours that speak to me are the ones of trees - you seem to have a real affinity for trees and an understanding of how we should see them. The composition here is excellent especially where the limb of the tree takes an oddly angled bend - your composition puts it at just the right location.

You also seem to be afflicted with the passion for history that is an important part of oriental cultures. ;) (not a bad thing)...

Mary

Beautiful picture,well proportioned,excellent colours and very crisp. Thank you for looking at my portfolio,I've added you in my friends's list as I am interested in sharing this passion for all manual and mechanical equipment.
I don't disdain the new and elechtronical gear,but when I use my old Leicas and manual Contax with Zeiss lenses I feel the photos " more mine",if you understand what I mean.
I'm sort of traditional in photography although I make moderate use of Photoshop in order to make up for the scanner's flaws,but I'm not into surreal type of composition.
Browsing into your work I have the impression that you have the same kind of feeling.
Very nice meeting you,Roger,regards, Antonella
