I have been there, John, and never saw it this way. Wish I had. Awesome. I was not into photography at the time, and this makes me want to go back. The photo has cinematic quality, as David Lean or John Ford would see it. After reading your bio it is clear that you are hugely overqualified for retirement, and should pursue your options in photography. Bill. P.S. My wife concurs and she is a better photographer than I am.

Another perfect photo! Gives me the feeling desolation, and the weather illustrates what carved that brilliant landscape. I?m just not sure if this photo is deserving of such a generic title. 7?s

Thank you all for your wonderfull comments. Yes this is THE Death Valley. DV does get weather, it just does not get much rain. The weather is most common from January to March. This was taken in March and as I remember it, mid afternoon. We stayed until sunset. I have shot the dunes a number of times and I am always surprised at how strongly they pick up the color of the sky. They can get very yellow warm at sunset/rise with bluish shadows. Yes there are mountains in the background sort of lost in the haze since they are many miles away. Camping is restricted to certain areas of the park and DV can get quite cold in the winter. On my last trip it snowed at elevations above 4000 feet. -J

At what time of day did you take this photo? Was it early or late? I'm really impressed with the eerie blue cast created by the weather conditions. It makes for a unique presentation of a desert scene; I imagine such heavy cloud cover is not common in a desert! I agree that it would be nice to see some of the mountains in the background, but I think the perfect exposure on the sand makes up for it. :)
