Shot in late afternoon light, with polarizer, on tripod. This is from my first roll of Velvia. The slide retains a bit more shadow detail. I am still learning how to handle this film but I am pretty happy with it so far. Location: Forillon National Park, Quebec, Canada.
This looks really good as a "length" shot - the eyes go straight up the image to the horizon. But I do wonder what it would look like with more width. Not sure I'd like it better - I'd have to see it side-by-side - but I think I would. It just *seems* like square would also be very appropriate here.
This is certainly not one of your most dramatic images, but it does work. You have filled the frame very nicely here from top to bottom, and your use of late-day lighting is excellent. A little earlier and you could have some color in the water as well. I am happy to see you working with Velvia too. When I first used it, I honestly despised it...truly! Shadows were black, contrast was over-kill etc etc..... But, when I did give it another chance and started using it in many different settings, and then started comparing it with Provia, Sensia, even the Kodak 100 VC...It simply beat all of them hands down every single time. I will repeat, every single time. I like Provia for some sunsets or surf shots and that is about it. Lock yourself down with Velvia for a while, learn how to use it effectively...you will probably never go back!! Nice shot here Ken.
I like the motion of waves in the foreground, but I wish the trees would come closer to the water in the background, but perhaps that is just my mood. Technically, superb.
