You have done a wonderful job on selectively using colour and B&W, the flower looks great and stands out well from the bg. Could I suggest a gaduated fill on the bg, from the top down, just to ballance up the light/dark area a little better, but either way it's lovely - Richard.

A new discovery, a gorgeous outcome! Nice work! I love the bright yellow against the desaturated background beyond the DOF!

Thanks for all your comments! To answer Leslie, this is from a single image. I adjusted levels and color balance for the entire image and then selected the center separately (a couple of times with different size circles and a fairly large feather) to further adjust levels and contrast and to add some saturation to the center. I dodged the bee a little separately but he's still pretty subtle -- good camoflage! The background was desaturated using the channel mixer after applying a quickmask to the flower. The only content that was changed in the photo was removal of an unsightly stake sticking up in the background. I have thought about the sky. Can't figure out how to add more flowers while remaining true to the perspective. Thought about some gentle clouds but I'm not quite ready for that...

So perfect photo plus artwork! I love this beautiful backlight and great details even in the middle of the flower! (I can see a bee there... hihi) Also this b&w background to it is excellent! Wonderful image!

I love this...the light coming through the petals and the light on the center...did you merge two images for that?...beautiful sharp detail and excellent colors...my only nit is the white area, presumably the sky above and behind the sunflower...why not fill it in with more black and white sunflowers?

This is pretty colorful and high key for you Patricia-- your reputation is at stake you know;>) Seriously though, I love it-- nice blossom, nice composition, sharpness, exposure etc., but then against a B&W background. Cool! I'm going to have to look at masks! Gotta put this is favorites for PS inspiration-- nice work.
