As regarding how I trigger this picture: With camera on tripod and cable release, I trigger when the drop begin to fall. Of course I missed a lot of drops. For this picture for exeample, I shoot rather 70- 80 images. The mirror reflex cameras have a little lag shutter time, and for this reason, is difficult to catch the drop in the very moment of the impact with the water. So, I trigger in a moment before of the drop falling. For example: I have 30 cm/12 inch distance for water drop to fall. So, I trigger at half the distance. This method is very empiric.
Best wishes,
Peter adison.
I atach another picture, but no so spectacular.

What did you use to trigger the flash or camera or did you do it by hand and keep trying until you got it right?

I have wanted to do one of these photos for ever. I obviously do not have the equipment, such as you describe costs a lot of cash. Well done with your quest.
