Great about with this one Jon. I agree, you have to leave the horizon crooked in this case. If a judge sees it differently, they shouldn't be judging a photography contest. ;) Andre

Hi, Anthony - Thanks for you great comments. I think in this case it will be obvious that the horizon line is deliberate, but you never know :-] (and to be honest - I have avoided judging at the local camera club and so probably shouldn't be criticizing those who do!) In any case... thanks again.

Hi, Walkman. Thanks for you great comment. I was on a side road from Saskatoon to the Patience Lake potash mine, paralleling Highway 16 (northish of Sagehill, IIRC - it has been a while since I was out that way). I was in Fredericton last summer and can honestly say that that particular piece of NB is truly stunning.
Cheers,
Jon

Hi, Gary - thanks for your comment. That was my feeling too, and also the angle that the highway in the foreground is cut off at seems to add to the tension.

Thanks, Rohan. In the newspaper it said there were funnel clouds as well (nascent tornadoes) but alas, not where I was. Or maybe not so alas! I'm not sure how close I'd like to get to a tornado.

I agree: simply stunning Jon! I thought it might have been IR'd or something. I love your back-story too.
As to the slanted horizon, BAH! I agree with Gary that it adds a sense of dynamism. You obviously know all about the "Rules", and you are therefore entitled to break them. I do hope that "some judge" agrees that you chose to exercise your skill and knowledge deliberately, for reasons of drama. If not, the point will have been missed and stuff your "Honourable Mention, or whatever...
Best regards,
Anthony

Saskatchewan is the "Land of the Living Skies"!!! What a great picture to prove just that. So just what highway number were you on?? I was there last summer and Sagehill was wonderful, if not a bit on the smelly side!!

In a way the crooked horizon gives the image a certain dynamism, as if the photographer were rushing to get indoors away from that menacing sky Regards, Gary
