About I drive 120 miles (193 kilometers) a day for work. I try to take different roads whenever I have the time. Today, I turned down a road and when I looked to my left... I almost cried. What a wonderful old house. Someone tried to repair it...

Beautiful, even today.

I was working with a group of high school students on an historically-themed art project once, and one little prima donna was all upset because she wanted to do people but was assigned house styles from different eras. "Well," I pointed out, "a house is just a box with people in it. So draw the "box", but include the people who would have lived there, looking the way the would have looked and doing what they would have done." My point was that every house is full of stories, but only because of the people whose lives ran through it. So to adequately describe the house as it once was, she needed to include the people. Otherwise, all she was showing was an empty assemblage of inanimate objects. It was, I felt, a brilliant solution to her problem.

She didn't get it, alas. I left her pouting over the injustice that an artist of her skill was relegated to drawing mere boxes...

yeah... its terrible isn’t it.. still in Athens (Greece) there are hundreds of empty homes because the kids wont sell them after the parents die something to do with taxes or sumfin I guess and when the joints fall down, they then sell the empty land.. at least I think that's what they do.. weird stuff.. great stuff Jim.. I drive to work as well about 10Kms.. only one road.. along the flat lookout over the Gyarran Dams (that's my name for them) beyond that the modified hill of Bell's Mountain (modified in the sense that Muswellbrook Coal Company have been tipping overburden all over the side of the mtn.. and reshaping it) then round and through the cutting up the hill past Gyarran homestead flick the cruise control off and coat down to 70KMH in the 80KMH zone lock the cruise control back on .. down the hill at 70 into the 60KMH zone locked in at 70 past the council offices the motel Darryls bobcat some houses a car dealership the sqaush courts a couple of petrol garages Maccas then down to 40KMH for the school zone (the cops are always there!) chuck a right into Bell st past Stan's sculpture of a mining truck carved out of a tree stump .... the golf course up over the railway line left into Market St then down past the Muswellbrook Hotel Gould Bros Pam Kings cycle shop the Railway station the Railway Hotel I call out to XXXX as I go past XXXXXX’s premises she is gorgeous and should pose nude for me.. but I never see her.. damn then past the fire station the old county council electricity building a right into William st then a hard left into the parking area of the gallery… out and open up the staff door into the kitchen and make the coffee…. What more could a man need?
