Thanks Eb - Yes you are dead right more light would have added greatly to the shot and may have allowed me to not crop the picture in so closely. Cheers Mike

Mike, I have been enjoying in-flight bird shots lately. Yours is a treat! However, as you know, you could have used some more light on the subject! Eb

What a powerful image!! Love the shape and textural feel of the bird's feathers. Also the strong diagonal composition adds much to this image.

Mike... Like this alot.. the crop on the top feels just a tiny bit tight, just a fraction extra of blue sky would let the top wingtip breath some more... otherwise SUPERB image. Cheers Dan

Well where you ended up was great. Nicely done. I love the crop very much. The exposure is very good, I love the tail feathers they almost have a translucence. Enough of an exposre to show the beak and feet clearly. A bit more mid tones I feel would have made this stunning

Nice capture for the poor lighting condition, the Tern is very sharp and I like your sky color, Keep them coming in 2009. Happy New Year, Ken

Thanks for that - it was a really overcast day and I was on a Search and Rescue job when I had a few brief minutes to snap a couple of pics. The result wasn't what I was after mainly due to the light - so I took the background out and replaced it with the solid colour fill - which turned out a rather interesting result, considering where I started. Thanks for your comment and assistance

Good timing mike - if i may add, one of the techniques to keep in mind is to always try to shoot with the sun behind your back - this gives you natural lighting and brightens up the subject. especially for birds since there's a lot of detail that can be lost....
