About A quiet evening in New Orleans city in October 2006, 1 year and 2 months after the passage of Hurricane Katrina.

An estimated million people has voluntarily fled the US Gulf Coast ahead of Hurricane Gustav, which is expected to make landfall on Monday or Tuesday after leaving a path of devastation across the Caribbean in its wake.

Ordering his city's remaining 239,000 residents to leave, Mayor Ray Nagin warned them that staying would be "one of the biggest mistakes you could make in your life".

Mr Nagin called Gustav the "mother of all storms". While it has been downgraded to a Category 3 storm after passing over Cuba, it is expected to build again into a Category 5 hurricane.

Hurricane Katrina was a less powerful Category 3 when it devastated New Orleans three years ago when the city's defensive levees - or storm waters drainage system - collapsed.

Mr Nagin stressed that the city will not offer emergency services to anyone who chooses to stay behind.

My dear Michele, my Oregon friend with such a big heart. Can you believe or not a girl called Hanna came from Africa to Paris today for working together with me. She will stay in Paris for 2 weeks. Even a hurricane has not that patience to stay such a long time with me :-)
big hugs and kisses,
Paul

My dear friend Bilja, glad that you liked my storm thoughts and the opposite still captured in a picture.
If I can always can find shelter thanks to you, only many more big storms are needed :-)
For today many big shelters to you,
Paul

Hi dear Nicki, you have been here too and experienced the peaceful settings and atmosphere. But we all know that unfortunately it is such a temporary situation. Who would like to live with the sword of Damocles above his/her head? Save for a while now and barely unpacked, one day, if not taken by surprise, packing will be needed again and again. Better to start a new life somewhere else.
Big hug and kisses,
Paul

Un grand merci dear Arif for commenting on my N.O. night shot. The sky has cleared a bit, but for how long? Moving to another place on earth would probably solve the problem for millions.
all the best my friend,
Paul

Hi Mitra, still thank you for commenting my New Orleans night shot. Many citizens returned to their homes but we still do not know how many more hurricanes will follow this Autumn and in the near future.
best regards,
Paul

Excellent image and 'about' my dearest Paul !! This is why I truely left Florida in Oct.5th... all that season Fla. had many bad hurricannes that year AS well and after Katrina I just up and left to return to my family - I was scared and also missed the ones I love so much... Mother Nature is the strongest force we have and nothing to EVER doubt ... I feel so badly for these people getting hit twice, and also maybe a third time as 'Hanna' now heads their way too :((:(
Big Hugs, & Kisses ,
Michele~

I hope that people don't want to stay now!!!Poor people!! I was there some years ago and I liked the French Quarter the most!!And now it will be the second time already.A great capture and it seems very quiet but we know that it is not a peaceful City at all.I really hope that Gustav will be not so bad as announced!
Great job Paul!!

Very attractive shot Paul. New Orleans is a very unique city. We are following the Gustav situation here on news in MN. Last time I heard it was listed into Category 4 and most people are leaving the town.
