Smashing capture!!!! Down to the furry vest the butterfly is wearing! We're having them too around here! Difficult to capture, but with lots of patience...one can manage, not so well as you did, though! This butterfly made you a present of all its beautiful coat! What a treat!!!

Dave: It's unquestionably beautiful and wonderfully captured. Hey, great portrait in the bio section. I guess I need a new one myself.

Dave, awesome shot. One problem in finding the name of this guy is that it is not a butterfly - it is a moth (I think).

this is a great shot, full of vivid colours and so well composed, and the DOF... it looks like a continuation of those leaves only that this 'last one' strayed in colour :)

V.

Simply a perfect macro! The main subject is in the DoF as a *whole* and not only partially (which is one of the main pathologies of most macros here), the colors are brilliant but nor a Disneyland color-overkill, the main subject is well separated from its background, which is a real achievement considering the very close distance of the main subject and the background, and the lighting is exactly balanced. Add the extremely sharp details on the butterfly and here we are a real macro - one that *defines* its subject instead of simply depicting it from a short distance!

One of the best I ever saw here. Congratulations, Dave!

LOL... I've never heard of a question mark before, but it's in our country! I guess I have to travel to Manitoba!

Great colours and fantastic detail getting in close. I can never manage to sneak up on these guys before they fly away.

It looks maybe a little over sharpened (or it could be my eyes)... still an excellent capture.

Nice sharp photo and I have been looking for some shape or pattern that would prompt the name but must be honest I can't find one. Maybe they just could not think of a name so left it a question. I am glad you shared the name, I like extra info along with photos. Del.

I wonder why it is called "Question Mark" !! Maybe it's because of the wings as Mitra has pointed out .. not many butterflys have wings like this anyway ..
Nice shot Dave .. Well done ..
My best -- aLi

Beautiful macro shot with great colors. I would think they get their names "question mark" from their wings (?).
