About This is shot at Dana Point Area overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This is the exact location where i took this shot and posted on this forum before.. here it is: Raining In The Sea The only difference i i have used Tobacco Filter to get the reddish effect instead of lavender blue for the other shot. I spend a lot of time in trying to get the colors right, specially the green vegetation and flowers below the ocean's horizon. It turned out to be washed out, in comparison to the print i have in front of me. I think i finally got the colors i wanted.. please tell me what you think, and how can i improve colors when scanning film.. thank you

Yes that's a fair comment about the foreground letting this shot down. The sky has enought drama and colour to stand as an image on its own. I love the effects of the tobacco filter - it makes the picture for me. Keep them coming in Subha!

OK, I have a very good reason to love this photo. When my mother-in-law was pregnant with my wife, she and her husband were watching a surf movie where Dana Point was being filmed. They loved the name and subsequently named their daughter, my gorgeous wife, Dana! Now, about the photo. Very stark colours are very attractive and the contrasts are great. I like the dramaic sky but I feel the foreground lets you down a bit. More contrast there perhaps.

Subha,
Excellent picture.
About your query : The lens I prefer most is the normal lens (1:1.4/50mm).My 75% photographs were taken by this lens for its high resolution and easy to use.Apart from this normal lens, I seldom use my other two lenses(135mm & 28-80mm zoom).I always take the photographs according to the TTL meter reading. So there is no mystery in taking my photographs.I like to take photographs on human interest mostly.
Kasinathda.

Subha, very nice picture with great colors. The green and a patch of sky blue in it, perfectly matched. You may reduce some yellow, may be my monitor is yellowish! Well, you called me '-da' after my name, touches me very much. As you were at Mudiali and now I reside at Ranikuthi, very close. I used to live in our ancestral home at Bhawanipur, you know. Near Suvomoy Mitra's (who is also a Usefilm membher) home. Nice to hear that you have a girl, mine is 6 and half. Want to see her here, what is her name?

A good shot but I find it too red. I believe it would have been even more striking had the sky been rather less red and the foreground more blue so the grass had a more natural colour.

Well, it would be interesting if it were a photograph of a dramatic sky, but it looks like a photograph of color grad filter with a seascape in the background, as most such photographs do.

While these filters usually look artificial with color film, they can be quite effective with black and white, because they will both bring the exposure for the sky closer to the exposure for the land, like a grad ND filter, and they will improve cloud definition, like a regular filter of the corresponding color, but they won't affect the contrast in the foreground.

If you want to photograph dramatic skies in color, wait for the dramatic light. It's usually more impressive than anything a filter can produce.

Subha,

I have noticed something in each of your comments. You seem to beg for others to come and rate your shots. You have some pretty remarkable shots, do you really feel that you need to beg for the recognition? If so, I feel sorry for ya. But I'm just an old hill billy from Missouri, and that is not the way we do things. They stand on their own, sorry pal. But I just cant bring myself to give an honest critique on a shot that someone has begged for.

Later my friend,

Russ

Hi, Subha. I like this photo very much. I think it looks better than "Raining in the sea" because here the sky has a lot more impact. It looks like a battle between fire and water, while the land stands peacefully away. Great shot!

I'd like to thank you for your comments and support on my portrait work. Very encouraging. My best regards,

Marcelo Lima

Very dramatic sky. I may have cropped more of the bottom. The plants look a little blueish on my monitior. Otherwise, Great shot!
