About As to how I achieved this work, the lengthy explanation is for Nick Karagiaouroglou :)

Scanned 6X4" print which had been lab processed and not hand printed by me.
Off we go into photoshop 7.
Cropped.
Applied charcoal filter and crosshatch filter with Pale Cool Brown and Black as the base colours.
Altered hue/saturation, colour balance and selective colour.
Applied unsharp mask.
Made copy for which I used burn tool for selected shadow areas.
Desaturated and added cyan to selected areas and also added red and magenta to selected areas.
Layered the images and blended until I was satisfied with basic result.
Flattened images to merge down layers.
Applied stained glass filter - 44 difference.
Adjusted brightness and contrast.
Another colour blance.
Unsharp mask.
Basically, that's it.

Thank you for taking the time to read and view... :)

All comments are welcome as constructive criticism and not nasty. I can take honesty, but not rudeness.
All images are viewed subjectively. I believe we do our best to be objective (or some of us do... I know I do...) but there is always an element of subjectivity in our view, for we see not only through our eyes, but through our own emotions and they come about through our Life experiences and current "frames of minds"...

I am sure many will think this image is just an over processed indulgence in PS play... Not so. For me, it holds deep symbology...

Hello Colin! :)

Oh, I am so happy with your interpretation of the image! And I am pleased it evokes an emotional reaction.

I wrote out the "journey" as some people want to know the steps... but I agree... the essence... the result is far more important than the technicalities.

Many Thanks, Colin.

Hugs~
Ani :)

Album cover... hmmm... possibly so, since I do album covers and promo posters for bands/singers and also a lot of similar work for actors/models etc who want something "different"...

Thank you for your thoughtful and positive comments, Beks.
And no... the rating did not go down!
Whoohooo :)

Glad you like it!

Cheers my Friend!
Ani :)
(PS: This is the same model as in Wild Cat... shot same day within probably minutes of the wild cat shot...)

Hello Ani
This image really evokes the feeling of being caged emotionally, to me this is what photographic art is about to get some sort of emotional reaction from the viewer and if you have done that you have succeeded!!!

The journey to achieve this is interesting however the it is the essence of the image that is critical.

Nice work Ani

Hugs Colin :)

Looks like an album cover to me, very groovey. As you know, I luuurve to play in PS too, and I give a huge hurrah to art for art's sake!
This is for sure a strong image, her very pose, the half lidded eyes, set of her mouth and raised shoulder, coupled with your 'up the nose' angle, give a supreme confidence....kind of a 'come hither', but if you don't, I can do for myself (so to speak!! LOL).
I like!!
cheers, Beks
P.S. am giving you a 7 , but your rating will go down for some silly UF reason!!! GRRRR

Hi Roger!

Yes ... symbology...

I deliberately have the stained glass filter so obvious as I wanted the inmpression to be similar to "chicken wire"... as though this model is "in a cage"... cooped up and the animal type colours are very deliberate also.

I always appreciate your comments and thank you!

Cheers!
Aniko :)

symbology??? I think its well cool except for the stained glass filter... that needs to be reduced so that the boundaries are less clear

Hello Habib!

Thank you so much!!!

I am most certainly not "conventional" in any sense of the word... lol...

I have only ever "pulled" a couple of photos from UF, because they have not posted well.. I have soon "fixed the problem" and "replaced" them. I agree... leave the photos without any filtering. Good or bad critisism, so what??? :)
Photoshop is an artist's tool... I enjoy it as much as I enjoy using a physical paint brush or pastels or or pencils etc on canvas or paper...

Art for Art's sake!!!

All the best and Take Care!
Aniko :)

... perfect ABOUT Aniko!!
There's nothing wrong with pulling away from conventional photography, because if people don't do that, we'd have the view the same old/boring style over and over again!
I consider myself a pioneer, not a follower & i 'm assuming u do too!
I leave all the photos i post up on UseFilm, whether or not they receive good or bad criticism, just to prove that i can be diverse, i know of photographers that filter their portfolios every few months, which i think is quite sad.
In regards to people who think photoshop ruins photos, people who work with film know all to well that PS is the digital version of a dark room! "PhotoChopping" has been around since the introduction of the photo camera.
:)
take care.

Um... Ani... how about letting ME decide who the star is??? :)

Still say the pose and the post-process work makes htis look like a glamour poster... one you'd find on some teenager's wall. Next to the little wanker's bikini poster... LOL

Yes my Dear Srna... I have "feelings"... lol ...

I have rested... I am rushing as I "should" be at work right now, but there is another image I quickly want to load, which UF was not allowing me to after having posted this one! I hope it co-operates with me now... Fingers crossed on an upload! :) :) :)

Love,
Aniko :)

Heya Dave!

She is not a movie star. She is a friend I have many images of. All very different facets of the same being. I rarely shoot anyone at this angle... The up the nose shots are not my "style"... lol... However... Wanted it to be intense. The attitude of the model is all important to me.

An element of glamour I see in this image, yes, Dave... but more so a hard core feeling... of defiance perhaps?
Micelle got the feling (in part) rather well of how I felt whilst creating this image with INTENT... And the title is no "accident" either.

I am not a star Dave... but thank you for your kindness...

Love, Kisses and Hugs~
Ani :)

Hugs to you Dear Michelle!

I love your wording: "I get the feel of the mood I am..."
I believe people forget sometimes that it depends on what "mood" they are in when viewing an image or any other art or aspect of Life in general... that we respond within the "boundaries" of that mood!

My "mood"" when creating this, was through mixed feelings, but bottom line was to create a strong image and you hit the nail on the head, so to speak, Michelle.

HUMANS ARE ANIMALS!!!

Why do we forget this?

The stained glass effect is hard, as though this woman is perhaps enclosed behind wire and might be on display at the zoo...
Or perhaps she has another story? But animal... she is ... sure... we all are... indeed. All humans = animals!

Warm thanks Dear Friend,
Aniko :)

Aniko:)
The well-thought-out very thoroughly and realized great work. The superb artistic effect. You have very good skills of the work in PS. Such interpretation of the portrait is interesting and has the unusual form.
Forgive my poor English... I hope that You will read my acknowledgement :)
Warm hugs:)
Viola
