Beautiful Doyle! The color is immaculate! I dont usually comment on images of children as they are usually nothing more than a family photo. But here you have done an exceptional job with the color, candid expression, composition and light management! Has a filmography feel to it. I love it! Congrats on a fine portrait! -Wayne-

Nailed it twice Gayle. Marlyce adores the highlights in the hair and I think the B&W is simply gorgeous. Obviously, the color version will hang . . . you know how women are . . . ( snicker ) but in MY office . . . . ;)

Good portrait Doyle, I like the hair's as they are, they gives a motion feeling or wind perchaps, that gives an idea of a child that goes into your frame and goes from the left to the right... perchaps that shot could be nice in greyscale or anyway one color mode...not sure... just a taste of mine, nothing else... :-) it's already very nice portrait!

glad to give my thoughts about the B/W version,Doylster....as you may have heard me say more than once,B/W is my first love and all i shot when i began with a manual Mamiya many moons ago...it still is,tho' i can appreciate color especially when it suits the image...this B/W version is gorgeous!...my only nit is that i want that pale greyish shape in the lower rt.as viewed diminished more...it distracts a bit...if were mine, i would choose to hang the color version because of the amazing highlights in her hair... Thx. for the emails and appreciate your input! peace, gayle

Lovely informal portrait of your granddaughter Doyle! The colours are beautiful and so the skin tones. I must agree with you on the choice for B&W - the skin looks silky smooth and soft and do not compete with the background. Fine work! Joggie

Thanks Michele:
#1 - trust the monitor . . . I'm getting a "swimming Pool blue" color which I could have adjusted but . . . Also prefer the palm tree gone though it does suggest Venice Beach . . .
#2 - Well Grasshopper . . . I couldn't be more proud! Exactly how I saw this!! :)
No worries about Marlyce . . . . she is self-admittedly not a B&W fan at all. Also . . . Grandma loved the color in Jenna's "beautiful hair" so she may be looking at the image with rose colored glasses . . . and who could blame her? :P

I am a color lover so this is not easy for me BUT I do feel very strongly about this image for 2 important reasons. Ohhh I prefer the B&W over the color #1 because the color of the BG sky is not good IMO - It looks turqoise on my monitor but I am not trusting my monitor so much these days.... so if you see turqoise then you understand it doesn't work so well IMHO for the sky. If not - cross off #1
#2 Because also IMHO this is a dramatic portrait and B&W make a more dramatic effect...
#3 I don't now-- just an unusual preference for me- Definitely not to disagree with Marlyce as I generally always agree with her ...just not in this particular case:((
Hope this helps my friend- It's a cool image of your beautiful grandaughter however you look at it :))
Best wishes, Michele~

Thanks Gayle. Marlyce is a bit of a purist so she pretty much wanted this left as is (palm tree and all) so I accomodated her. For myself, however, I agreed about the tree and went a different route (see attached). Love to hear your thoughts on this!

Oh, a tough job for sure Robin! Frine, wisely, closed the door as soon as she could on the van knowing full well that would be the only way to get grandma back . . . then they started giving each other kisses through the window . . . luckily, we're hopeful for a return visit in July so needed only a crowbar to pull Marlyce away! hope this one is already hanging on your wall...am quite impressed with the clarity of highlights/colors of her hair...the BG color is a perfect complementary color as well as a nice contrast of color...composed very well...if were mine, i would clone out or crop that blurred palm(?) or whatever it is to the right of her as viewed....it distracts my eye pulling it back n' forth because of the size and darkness...
what a delightful surprise....my son was almost 4mos old when he experienced his first flight to visit my parents on the eastcoast...i can't imagine doing it via a bus and with 2 children!...

Wowee! Doyle -- this one is so good and inspired by love as well as Jenna's beauty. Are her cheeks pink from you and Marlyce gently pinching them all the time? How could one not do that? This is an excellent portrait on several levels, one of which being that her eye lashes, hair and rosy cheeks are so fine. Nicely done, my friend. I enjoyed viewing this picture. --Best regards, Jan

Love the sunlight playing in Jenna's hair, peaches & cream complexion... Beautiful little grandaughter Doyle... Marlyce and yourself must have been overjoyed with the suprise... The sadness of waving goodbye is a hard grab at the heart...
