Technical question- you used a tripod... but i wondered if you have made an exposure compensation (-1.5 steps?
If your intention was to capture the mood, indeed you succeeded...It is true that the depth marker gives the picture depth and without it the picture would be "flat"..
All the best!

Thank you Ruxandra.

Your comments are very welcome. The man is actually a sculpture one of many staring out to sea.

This photograph was taken about an hour after sunset (and the one of the depth marker on its own) and the only available light was the afterglow of the sun well below the horizon and some low powered lights on the promenade behind me.

I have tried to capture the mood of the beach with these photographs.

With the very best wishes.

Paul

For example, for my taste (but I remind you Paul that i am a beginner)...only the man there...or a third thing..this is how i see it....
All the best!

A terrific, surreal composition, Paul. Out of emptiness, man and machine. Beautiful gray tones.
Well done!!

Grazie Elisabeth. He is a statue, one of a hundred that looks out to sea, and that the tide covers and exposes every day. The piece of art is called 'Another Place' by Antony Gormley, and represents the sadness and hope of a new life when emigrating. Antony Gormley is also responsible for the Angel of the North statue in Gateshead UK.
