About How long, I wonder before the drip would actually have touched the surface? This is exactly as taken, no PS fiddling, the drop really was that close!

So, no reflexes - but extreme patience!

No reflexes at all, Sally. Happily the camera will take over 300 continuous shots with flash before the SD card is full. So it's just a case of setting it all up and running the drips while the camera snaps away. Of course, almost all are rubbish but the remainder can be magical. I think I took about 1,500 shots in all and have kept about 35.

Wow Martin I'm impressed - you must have lighting fast reflexes!
How did you focus so accuaretly(the dof looks quite small)?

Just out of interest I applied some high school physics to find out how much time was left before impact. The drop was released from 8 inches above the water surface and is about 2.5 mm in diameter. The gap to be closed is about 1% of the diameter of the droplet This means, if my sums are right, that contact will be made in about 1/100,000 of a second. Close call or what?
