I have been walking around downtown at lunch the last couple days with my camera slung around my neck, hanging at about waist level. Every now and then I hit the shutter button (note: this only works if you have auto focus :-) . I found the results oddly intriguing, possibly because of the waist level POV, which I think one would not normally expect from this sort of street scene. I suppose it all really boils down to the "how many monkeys would it take to type a clean copy of Hamlet" sort of idea. :] ... On today's jaunt I used my shorter lense, set about about 50 mm (equivalent) and didn't find the results as interesting. I set the camera to f8 to try and give myself the best trade off between DOF and shutter speed (particular important when walking along with a long lense bouncing at waist level), but had to dump quite a number that were too blurry regardless.
Interesting.. no, I hadn't seen that. I was quite pleased with the overall sharpness and framing of it. Not really a compelling photograph, I suppose, but not completely stupid :-]
Jon, These angled street scenes are always interesting. Did you notice the optical illusion, when viewing the thumb nail? The angle of the street fools your eyes into seeing the image bent on an angle in the frame. This is not so obvious in the large image. I suppose it's a good thing you didn't put a frame around this one. Andre
