About
An abandoned farmstead a few miles up a lonely trail. The overgrown yard and outbuildings were full of signs of lives lived long ago. About a hundred yards away was what was probably once the "new house" - built when the farm had grown and become more prosperous. It too is now boarded up and overgrown. In this age of ever larger farms and ever smaller farm populations, the owner of land could be anywhere.
Shot in colour, converted to b&w, converted back to colour and warmed up to give it a brownish tone.
Thanks, Alicia. I like the sadness of an abandoned place like this - full of lives lived and dreams dreamed. History is a bit "thin" in this part of the world, which while it means we are denied the richness of centuries and millenia of written human endeavour, also means that we who live here are able to appreciate our own history in very immediate and often quite personal terms.
Thanks, Mary. I shot this in colour but much prefer the way it turned out with a bit of digital manipulation. I've been converting colour images to greyscale, then converting them back to colour and reducing colour temperature to get the brownish tones similar to the way a print would look on one of the "warmer" papers.
