Thanks, Dan. As you can probably see from my work, I'm really into using motion (especially camera motion) to make interesting and compelling images. Consider my manifesto:

It needs a lot of sense for manual control, James, to draw something like that!

Congratulations for creating a shape!

J - Thanks. I have said it before but I will say it many times again: good art is an incidental collision of luck and skill. I tried to make pictures over and over shooting this bulb. This one was enough to make me do a little dance.

Dave - Thanks. As you say, I am (in general) working toward something. Sometimes I am just seeing what will happen with a new subject using various techniques which I have built up (but there is some basic knowledge of what's coming). This particular shot was pretty much blind luck. I was trying for drawing something. I tried many things. I guess I shot 50 or more shots of this one bulb. This was maybe the third one. And probably the only one really worthy of the effort. But of course when I saw this one I was so excited that I tried for many others. Just more proof that it's best to quit while one's ahead.

Ah, yes, another of the simple ones. Great pattern you got on this one, I would like to think that when you are doing this, you are intentionally working on a design. (actually, I know you must be). And your reesults are great.

Best wishes,
Dave

Mohamed - As with any cat, you have to pretend you are not interested and before you know it, it will hop up in your lap. Thanks again.

Chitra - Thanks for stopping by. I'll look forward to seeing images from your laser pointer series.

James, This should've been a pretty tough taking. Very nice rendition too! It would make a nice abstract print of a cat. I was experimenting with laser pointer but haven't done anything with camera movement. Nice one to explore. Thanks for your recent comment on my photo.

Lubi - I was trying to draw "something". A cat qualified. I tried to draw specific things but since all drawing is reversed it was rather chaotic. Maybe I'll try my left hand. It does everything all backwards anyway. As you can imagine, I was delighted.

it is too good to be an accidental shot... therefore your efforts really paid off in this one... did you thought about the cat theme before shooting or it poped out during the proccess???? anyway, an original compo... experimenting suits you :)

Marija - Sometimes the results are very predictable even if they are difficult to control (no computer controlled servos in my wrists).

I see something, a contrast of light and dark, and I think "ah, that might be something" and I start shooting, experimenting with various hand, wrist, arm, and body motions. Often I will shoot and shoot and shoot until I finally get what I'm trying for. Other times I throw in the towel deciding I must have been mistaken thinking it was the right scene to shoot (which is terrible). Sometimes I find something that is marvelously fruitful.

Of course my initial judgements are ocassionally reversed once I get the image onto a large screen.

Thanks again.

Tuna - I probably did a couple of dozen different images. This cat was almost miraculous.

Tuna Esener Tuna Esener   {K:-2953} 7/3/2006
oh,I'm shocked.I really thought that this is a cat-shaped light.I never thought that is a single bulb. But is not the shutter(1s) a bit short to draw it?I mean,at least 3-4 seconds needed to draw it I think!Anyhow,it is very good.

James Cook James Cook   {K:38068} 7/3/2006
Tuna - I did draw this with the camera. The bulb was just a regular single-filiment, clear light bulb hanging from the ceiling. If I had kept the camera still it would have been a small dot (or perhaps a very tiny line).

good work.Maybe a little bit camera shaking would be better. If you didn't write that this is a incandescent bulb,I would have thougt that you draw this cat-like vision with your camera.Regards...
