About Driving into Tarifa from Cadiz, the old bridge is hidden away in the trees beside the new industrial estate (every Spanish town, however small, has to have its industrial estate…). I spent quite some time composing this to make it look a much more idyllic spot than it really is - and admit that I was obliged to “remove” an intrusive construction in the background.

Doyle, many thanks for taking the time to make such an in-depth and constructive critique. I must admit that after uploading this image, I was a bit surprised at how soft it appeared. As to the other points, I will keep them in mind when I go out and try to improve on this shot.

Great shot John. I'm not sure where you made the BG post work - Wherever, it was likely done well enough to leave little or no residual traces. My thoughts on this are that the bridge (IMO) is just a little soft . . . a sharper focus might have given it a bit more power and it's such an interesting subject with it's state of disrepair that the eye seems to beg for more. I also find that the light green area on the left central BG tends to pull my eye along it almost like it's a path, and out of the composition. The dark, top right area of the composition is a tad distracting and does not contribute anything meaningful to the composition (again . . . all this is in my opinion . . .) I would think seriously about lowering the top crop since this would give more emphasis to both the bridge and the lovely reflections in the surface water. The greens are rich and vibrant and the reflections are just the very definition of tranquility. Your light and contrast are spot on, but I think you know that. Very lovely shot, John.
