About The Gower Peninsula is a popular tourist spot, but, off the beaten track there are still some unspoilt coves where, even on a busy bank holiday weekend as this was, you can have the entire place to yourself. It was about 1 hours walk from the road to reach this bay followed by a scramble down a steep rocky path.

This was taken about 3pm. At this time of year, I knew that if I arrived much later the sun would disappear behind a headland leaving the beach in shadow. When I arrived, it was cloudy which gave me some time to explore the beach. I found this small pile of seaweed and stones washed up by the tide and thought they made a nice balance to the composition. I waited a while and watched the light as it danced behind the clouds for the moment that the beach and nearest headland were lit by the sun. I was also fortunate that the attractive cloud on the right of the composition came into view - I'm particularly fond of this element and the way it reflects in the glistening sand.

Well observed and nicely composed, Chris. The reflection makes this image for me and the foreground detail helps anchor the shot. You're right about the cloud adding balance and the only thing that's really missing is some of that good old Joe Cornish sunset glow on those cliffs. But, as you say nature sometimes thwarts the photographer by allowing the sun to set in the wrong place! Worth a return trip at a different time of the year?

Great shot, but I think I'd like it better if it were cropped above the seaweed, it's a little distracting to me

Beautiful shot. Nice timing with the water receeding showing the crips clarity and reflection of the sky.
