Hi Efisio,

I think you should give yourself a bit more credit; I do think its a very good photo, and a very pleasant scene. And in order to achieve what you did, you need to know how to take a good photo, as well know how to make a good print, and you did both...:)

And that's why there's the help project, I've put my last one in there too, for the same reason, and that's what Usefilm is for, and what makes it so great, don't you think?

Cheers,

Hugo

To Hugo:
I think this is not a great photo, never think it, but a good groud to make experiment, on:
1) filter use
2) zone system
After the develop and printing another experiment ground to recover or learn more from the user advices to upgrade the technics.
I put in photo help project this shot for these reasons.
I think i strike the target... i'm happy.
Thanx
E.

Ciao.

Hi Efisio, I think this is quite an improvement. The tonal range is much more crisp and well balanced. The biggest difference is in the details, such as the reflection of the sun in the waves, visible on the side of the boat. The harder contrast creates a good division between the greyscales of the ripples near the horizon and those nearer to the coast.

The slightly different crop works also quite ok, although I don't think that really changes much. Although you cut off the beach in the lower left corner, this version also cuts off part of the rock still in the water; that wasn't necessary for me (but it doesn't change things too much either)

Very good work, you're definitely on the right track! I think any further suggestions for improvement can only be based on subjective things, such as taste and preferences. IMO, you could increase the contrast just a notch more, but then you'd also need to start masking the dark parts / shadows a bit to preserve the details in those areas.

I really enjoy seeing this second print! Excellent job!

Cheers,

Hugo
