Thanks, Mark, and welcome back. I'll be away next week, and I'll return feeling a little guilt about not commenting. At least, it's a self-imposed ritual--and a most(ly) enjoyable one. Yeah, this shot was completely candid. When I get back, I intend to post a more formal version and the orginal. It's hard to know how much is too much, and this version probably qualifies as a silk purse. ;-)

George, the lighting and tones in this portrait are awesome. I really like the angle you chose as well. It's avery nice portrait. I might crop a little more at the top and I wish that we could see a better of view of this gentleman's eyes. Did you consider having him remove his glasses or was this a candid shot? Overall I rate it high. Sorry I have not been around for awhile, I'm trying to get back to posting and commenting. Looks like you've been very busy!
Cheers, my friend. -mm

feels more thoughtful, everything that is needed and nothing that isn't.

Great capture. Skin tone, hair and eyes so real like his deep thoughts will ooze out. A timeless classical portrait.

Thanks, John. Those elements are a dim reminder of the original background--a very busy lattice panel. When I do as much work on a picture as on this one, I am never quite sure when to stop. This was taken in a little cafe, and I wanted to hint at the fact that it wasn't a studio shot. Your point is well taken, though. Thanks . . .

Drilan, I would be happy to see it. I have always admired Karsh's distinctive style and technical excellence.

amicalement, drilan

It's an excellent portrait with perfect lighting. Since this was intended for CC, may I point out the dimples in the wall above your friend's forehead - I find these just a little distracting. (Actually, I'd have pointed this out anyway, as I'm sure you know!)
John

Wonderful lighting on this, George. Great choice of B&W. Reminds me of a Karsh. Well done! Larry

beautiful light George, don't know how you did it in the studio, but glad you did! B&W medium really produces a classic piece. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring portrait...

An excellent DOF!! You really captured the essence of the mood, the feeling is so serious here, and almost sad...great, great tones, nice lighting and clarity, the details are wonderful, I think you did a great job with this George!! Hugs!!

very intimate and still, really like the way the light works on the face - i think the choice of black and white is excellent since it highlights the good qualities of the portrait

I won't presume to know enough about natural light work to speak authoritatively...however I find the highlights & detail to be as good as they can get...excellent image of your friend...he sould be pleased.
