yeah the crop forces the direction they are flying in into the shot yeah a smidge of vignetting was added to highlight the birds

I like it much better with the crop. Thanks roger. ps does your version have a bit of a vignette? I like it! (vignetting is slowly growing on me.)

Catherine:
I don't think cropping is as important as adjusting the lighting and/or contrast . . . although I do think a small crop would help since the top of the photo is too dark. The birds in in a good location as a focal point using the rule of thirds (basically a tic-tac-toe board where the intersections of the lines make for good focal points.
I have modified your picture as an example of these suggestions. You take a great shot . . . and this was a good capture.
