Sue, I think you could crop right up to the fret and still retain most of the soundhole rosette, but your suggestion of a dark velvet sounds good. It would keep all the elements that Mike wanted in the image, which is the most important thing. aj

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. I did leave the left side of the image because I liked the shadow coming from the fretboard and string. This is a very nice looking instrument and I have tried to take several color photos but.... I've played the hell out of the guitar and color just looked scroungy where the same B&W just gave it character. -mn

AJ, I'm curious how you would crop the white space and yet, retain the gull fret mark as well as the soundhole rosette and pickguard detail? I agree that it somewhat detracts from the wonderful details in this image. Would it be better to have a negative space there instead? Maybe a bit of dark velvet or something?
