About Once a private residence, this beautiful estate is now a school for girls run by an order of Benedictine nuns, who came to Ireland as refugees from Belgium at the outbreak of WW I. My wife has family associations with the Abbey, and we were excited to visit and to be welcomed so warmly by Sr. Mary Benedict. (I'll soon post a few more photos.)

Don't know how I managed to miss this on previous visits. It's a great shot. Nice perspective, effective reflections to mirror the solidity of the stonework.

George,

What a lovely a castle. Beautiful shot.

Everything about Kylemore abbey is so romantic. The location, landscape, the history, the good political landlord at the back of it all who did plenty of good to his constituncy.

I am just curious. Is your wife is decendant of the family?

regards,
ken.

Lovely photo George, apparently most of the students are daughters of diplomats and other dignitaries.

This is great George. True story: Years ago my Mom purchased a painting of Kylemore Abbey. It hangs in her living room. I was always very intrigued with the painting, it's a watercolor and it shows a similar view as your shot, wider in landscape mode and with some early morning fog drifting off the lake. I always said that I would love to have the painting someday so my Mom said "write your name on the back so when I'm gone you can say I wanted it first!" I would love to shoot it someday as well. Kinda funny, huh?
