About One of my longest interests has been Astronomy and up until recently I've had little success at trying to marry both this and photography. My latest addition has been a telescope with a computer driven mount which has allowed me to take this picture, my first ever really deep sky picture. The Andromeda Gallaxy is our closest neighbour outside of the Milkyway and lies at a distance of 2.2million light years. This means that the photons used to create this picture left their source at about the same time that prehistoric man was taking his first steps. The picture is a single shot, I'm now trying out stacking sequencial images and I'm hoping that I may have something worth showing in the next few weeks. Thanks for looking.

Is that noise? You might want to try Noise Ninja to remove it.

Other then that it's a great shot

Another fascinating image, the number of stars visble as well is pretty good for a light polluted area...cheers.

Dear Nigel,

very beautiful picture, I have looked many times at Andromeda through the eye piece of my binocular, but have never seen it this way. The soft colors make it look a bit like a painting.

Congrats and thanks for your nice comment on my moon picture,
Paulo

This is the original before any processing. Post processing shows more detail in the dust lanes of the gallaxy's spiral arms... if you use a bit of imagination :-)
