Wow...impressive critique Doyle. My EXACT thoughts when shooting this one...bahahaha, yeah right!
Really, thanks for your thoughts...each and every point is well taken, examined, and filed away for future reference. Who knows, someday I may actually put that much thought into snapping a pic. ;) Kidding, just kidding!
Congrats back at ya...WE have a picture showing in Texas Bay-bee! This one might end up there too...maybe not showing, but there just the same.
:) Robin

Heh heh. Everytime I try to critique this something seems to happen and I lose my info . . . so here goes (3rd try in as many days) . . .
First. Love the colors. They work very well and the delicate blending of greens, oranges and yellows feel wonderfully true to the image as it must have been -
Second. The anthers here show a very sparing sprinkling of pollen and have the crispest clarity in the image. Nice . . . and almost like an animal, when you capture the eye . . . the rest is less important. I noted the DOF literally cut that central pollinated area in half. Initially, I was thinking that it might have been better to extend the depth a hair back rather than a perfect bifurcation of that area . . . but I have considered what that would entail.
Either a readjustment would be required in the angle of the lens or a new f/stop chosen to slightly increase the DOF. The new stop would have increased the DOF FAR too much for comfort. Neither of us like deep DOFs on floral Macros (as evidenced by the depth in our work) so that option would be out. The alternative might even have been worse since, as it is, it would have cost the introductory ridge in that depressive cavity leading down to the filament area. As it is . . . the trip down that cavity toward the central area is only JUST barely within the DOF . . . but it IS in and any change in the angle without changing the depth would blow the precise nature of the framing of this central area which is, by the way, perfect.
I was going to complain about the top right corner gray area but I just don't really think it bothers me at all! Great image Robin! "Inspired work"!

PS: Congrats, I believe you have a picture showing in Texas!!! Heh heh heh!! :P

Maraming salamat kaibigan! Macros can be a pain in the neck but, maybe you should keep trying...the images you posted are really quite good Bobot.
Most of the time I shoot outdoors, and believe it or not...without a tripod. Yes, the wind can be troublesome...that's when you pick the flower and take it indoors! This one was taken inside, nothing blooming yet and it is still a bit chilly outside. Thanks again for the kind words...I'll stick with the macros and leave everything else up to you!

very good compoaition gramma.. wonderful colors too. I now know that its not easy to do macro shots, just gave up on it, it is hurting my neck... hehehe. just wondering how you do your beautiful shots. I tried outdoor macro on florals and the wind just kept on moving my subject, its so hard to compose expecially when the wind just wouldn't stop for a minute. Just told myself, let gramma do the macros... : ) best regards kaibigan..
