Fantastic, great ballance between the wood ''path'' and the bird into your frame, great blue tones and also mood into the image! STUNNING small focal area at the foreground, really that is 'all the money' here! Excellent of caurse!

This is beautiful. It is very simple, but very effectively composed. I love the blue tone to the entire photo. Definitely peacful and tranquil! Very nicely done, Robert!

Andrzej, I very much appreciate you comments, it fuels my growth as a photographer. A friend of mine often says "in my perfect world" I would change this and that, this photo is a result of many of his suggestions and the next time i shoot here I will take on board your suggestions.
I plan on look at your photos as well.
Regards,
Robert

Robert, I agree there is no easy choice over the scene and this is what many of us struggle to balance between the best you got at the situation/conditions and what would be considered ideal - please consider my comments this way. I typically do not comment on shots that are out of basic norms but I may elaborate on something that is on the same wave I like and please do critique mine pictures whatever you think is or could be improved.
Best Regards, NJ

another great critique, thanks Jay. I am going to take these DOF comments on board and work on trying a more deep DOF. I go to this place once a week now and subject matter often swims by )

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Robert,

Lovely image! Beautiful, crisp and sharp!
I love how you played the DOF here, But I have small dislike...

I love the colors, and the dock playing a role here. My dislike is the DOF on the left side of the photo. I belive it would look better if the first part of the dock was in focus. I see a large blur taking up a large proportion of your photograph. My eye wants to follow up the dock, it's just natural for me... I look where I walk. The blur makes me feel lost and confused. I love the background focus, it is Perfect!! Beautifully done.

It's just the way the DOF created an "L" shape of the dock. I would have loved to see more of that white railings. I expect photos to have a flat plane of focus.

Keep up the wonderful work! I love the colors, the setup... infact everything! But the "L" shaped DOF. It's just my personal preference.

Thanks for sharing this with us! Wish you well!

a good critique Andrzej. I did try a crop without any distant trees and it made my eyes wander up and out of the scene, adding vignetting could have helped in this regard but I still found my eyes going up the jetty and out the bright area of the image. The tree line gives something that holds your eye in.
I personally find the pelican in a strong point. The dof increase is a mute point, very low light, ISO400 and slowest shutter speed possible without the pelican getting blurred. My personal preferance is shooting wide open, I can't help it.
Thank you for giving a lot of thought to the photo, I will leave it on my wall along with your comments and ask myself what I would do next time.

Rob, great stuff, wonderful scene, fantastic colors but the shallow DoF may not be a perfect one for the scene, I would expect full focus depth here or I would crop the top of the picture off just to refocus picture to the basis. The Pelican is the main object here but it's not in any strong point of the frame. It's my view only and I need to stress that this is great picture in many means. Cheers, NJ
