About I know very little about flowers, having been forced into gardening by a green-fingered mother. That developed an almost lifelong aversion! But getting a macro lens changed all that. If I knew more about flowers I'd hazard a guess that we have almost the complete cycle from bud through flower captured here. This is a small area cropped from a macro. The flowers are really tiny...

Dear Jessie, we really do seem to be on the same wavelength. I was disappointed in the lack of reaction to this, which I thought was one of the most beautiful flower photos I'd ever taken! Now you encourage me to think I might not have been wrong... Thanks!

Ellen, I DO know the Japanese name. It is "Saru suberi" which means "Monkey Slide." During the winter the tree is completely bare of leaves and has a hard, shiny trunk. No grip for monkeys to climb. Then come lots of leaves and great clusters of really TINY flowers in the summer. All of those buds are less than a quarter of an inch across!

I love sighting florals from accross the seas that we don't see over here Roger. These look so delicate and the details are really wonderful. Beautiful colour tones and a superb blurry bokeh from your perfect dof. Well done to you my friend. (I share the same childhood experiences as you:):) These days my lovely wife does the gardening and bans me from even mowing the lawns; my job......taking snaps) Cheers Roger.....Ray

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Tanaka San! I was feeling very sad at the neglect of this, which I think is one of the best flower pictures I have taken recently. One of my friends calls my usual flower pictures "Seed Packet" photos, but I think this one is a little more than that! This is a "Saru-suberi," so you can see it is greatly enlarged!

A beautiful macro, Roger! Love the shape of the buds and the frothy flowers! The corner with the display of stamina looks like a mini fireworks. Very creative shot!
