John, actually it's not cropped at all. He is a real 'in your face' guy, and that's how I shot him.

This image is so remiscent of some jazz photos during the 20s and 30s - in fact, I feel if you hadn't cropped so hard and had given the portrait some space to breath, it would have been an excellent composition. But that is just my taste.
