Oh yes, this is far better! Your right the brilliance of the rainbow does shine through, and theres a lot more detail in the clouds. Feels now like the picture discribes a glimmer of hope. The tone change brings a sence of wonder to the overall experience! This kind of advice is exactly why i signed up for usefilm. Thank you!

Hi Kelly, I've heard about the abrupt and local weather changes in Nevada, unfortunately we didn't get to experience one, but this does give a good idea of what to expect... Thanks for the background info.
About the jeep shot, I think increasing the contrast, and saturation was a good choice, but I don't think it's a matter of over doing it, when attempting something similar, I always notice the blue hue in the sky becoming stronger than desired , whilst the other tones don't show that at all. It's why I prefer working level for level, channel for channel. more time consuming, but also easier to control.
As to the second one, it was more something I wondered about than anything else. Pretty impressive colours, I like the third one, too, and the large size does offer even a bit more. Quite impressive.
I took the liberty of fiddling with the jeep one a bit, to see what I could make of it, hope you don't mind. Not having witnessed the scene, I might've overdone it too, and my rework on the JPEG doesn't really do justice to the image quality, so please don't mind that...
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Hugo, Wow, Actually the two photos were taken in two different locations although close together the clouds covered different parts of sky. Living in Nevada it can rain across the street and sun shinning on the other. You are right about the Jeep shot, it was much duller and I adjusted the color. A bit to much i assume. Ill post original. About the rain, It was only drizzling at that time and it would of been real easy to use the wipers and take the drops off or hang out the window. I thought the drops made the photo much more interesting. I loaded a photo that was taken minutes in between the others to show you the difference in the lighting and rain. Hopefully you can asses the photo beter. Im not sure how to answer your questions, I hope this helps. Thank you for taking such an interest.

Hi Kelly, I've been looking at this photo for a while now, reading the comments you've received so far. I think joe brings up some good issues, but I find it a lot more difficult to assess.
I do think the tones in this photo are spot on, much stronger and realistic (to me) than in the previous shot I commented on.
As to the choice of not hanging out, I think you made the right decision, but more because it would've gotten you and your camera wet...:) I'm not sure if this effect captures the magnificence of the rainbow as strong as possible. I can't really surpress the feeling that the in focus blurs are a more a result of the camera unwilling to focus on the rainbow itself, than a deliberate choice, but I might be way off there.
Cheers,
Hugo

Thank you Joe, I thought it added a little character to the scene. Your right about the focus on the rainbow...Never thought of it that way. Wish i could say thats why i did it...LOL! I looked at your portfolio and all your work is fantastic! Your water shots are magical! Thanks again!

Personally, I like it this way, better than if you had hung out the window. The rainbow is strong enough you can still see it, and without the sharp, in-focus rain drops on the windshield, I fear that this shot could have become a wide-angle view of a field with a tiny rainbow sticking out of it (in focus, the rainbow probably would have been significantly thinner, making it smaller against the horizon...). From inside the car, I think it's much more interesting.
