Hi Clay, Sorry for the late response to your query. It was a wide angle, 17mm on a full frame EOS 5D.

Thanks for the comments. It's part of a personal project I've started based on the environment around me, so hopefully you'll begin to see a common theme throughout a sequence of photographs.

I'm particularly pleased with the comment about it looking like a movie scene as that was partly my motivation so I've nailed it!

Thanks )

I'd love to know what you both mean by the light not being 'right'. There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was low. I don't know a photograph in the world ever that has recorded detail in the sun, right?!

How a photographer chooses to represent the view they see is entirely subjective and I chose to use a softer light with the emphasis on shape and form due to there being little sky interest and I feel I achieved my aim.

Thanks for the positive parts of the comments though.

I always feel a bit self-indulgent discussing my own photographs to be honest, which is why I only ever give a brief 'about'. But, it's a wee bit of a departure from my landscape work and something I do from time to time, as some of my other photographs will no doubt tell you. I enjoy these departures and they definitely help to remind me what I love about this art medium. Why this photogaph? Well, I liked the natural frame of the arch and the abstract image it helped to create. I also liked the main 'identifiers' in the lit element of the image set against a plain background. There you go, my self-indulgence for the day. Thanks,

Hi there, My 9 year old daughter really likes this. She thinks it has nice reflections and texture.

Hi Tarsus,
Thanks for the comments. There are no filters of any sort used on this photo. Just used the available light to give me a slow shutter speed and a small f/stop.

I wonder Moises, was this what you intended to take when you went out or did the picture strick you when there?

Great work and very atmospheric.

Hi James, I used side lighting with a special contraption over the flash and a couple of coloured gels (Sepia and Blue). The smoke is from a joss stick as they burn for a long time and let you play around with the angle of the smoke/light.

Alex, I think the setting was around 1/15 and f8. The system I used reduced the amount of light by a few stops so had to compensate.

Thanks again for the comments.

Thanks you for the positive comments. The weather isn't usually that good in North East Scotland, so I don't get the oppertunity to take many photo's like this.

I really like this. The contrast is very good. I would have liked to have seen it without the people too as I bet it would have still been a great photo.

Well done!
