This is a very good image. The composition works well. Typically, bisecting an image with either a horizon or placing the subject on the center would be termed "against" photographic rules, but somehow this image breaks the rules and just works.

You're enjoying photography too much Chris. You've definitely moved on from nature and macro to bigger and better subjects (no pun intended).
I've not done any portrait photography myself, but I can say the lighting is very good, as I'm sure these were well set-up, it looks very natural. Well done.

Hi Virgis, very good documentary and photojournalistic approach to this image. These things just don't make sense at lot of times and it's up to the living to keep the memories of those fallen.

Hi Robbie, Thanks, I used the nikon 200-400mm on this one, the weight needs getting used to and have to use a monopod. More practice needed.

I agree, very well seen. The post processing is good as well. Very artistic.
I would have taken out that 4th tree in the distance to make the composition stronger.

Hi Christine! I guess I missed this as well. I had the oppportunity to shoot these in the Philippines and the best time is when it's cools so they're not too active. One thing I just learned (thru Gennaro Manna) is to use flash to get the best lighting so that ISO doesn't need to be cranked up. Beauty of photography - we always learn! Hope to see you around.

I guess what happens in vegas doesn't stay in vegas.....
Good lighting and capturing the mood of the place. Have to agree with Kes, careful cropping can improve this image.

If any nitpick I have, it may just be to slightly lower the camera to make sure the sunflower is perfectly parallel to the lens plane..

I like this this such a simple yet powerful image. The title is very apt and gives one a lot to think about. The crooked, cracked line on the ground, the hand with the stick. Very well seen!
