Armando, my friend! How nice to hear from you again! I was going through some photos the other night and came across the photoshop you did years ago of my son's head on a chicken's body... a brilliant piece of work. He's seven now, something I find difficult to believe.

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks, Andre. I'm not sure what small town bars are like in far off Ontario, but here in Saskatchewan, they pretty much all have a part that look like this.

Cheers,

Jon

Well now that's the question, isn't it? The whole expedition was a voyage of return. I have a couple other shots from this trip up on UF (the bowling alley, eg). I went back to the places where I grew up and tried to shoot them not as they are now, but as they exist in my memory. Which is not quite the same as "as they once were". Very difficult to do. I don't think I succeeded, really. I think that I found that a) you can't go home again; but b) when you get to the place where home once was, it is all strangely familiar but eerily wrong. Some things are totally different and others - like the Craven bar - haven't changed at all. One of the really good things about it was that I managed to lay some ghosts that had been haunting me for far too long.

LOL... sorry... when I think of agnes moorhead, the only image I get is Derwood's mother in law... :-]

Thanks for the critique.

Cheers

Good thought. I don't know, to be honest. It came off a site advertising "Free Desktop Wallpaper", here:

Roma look out! Crazy Jim Loy, the most beautiful of Ugly Americans is coming... with his camera. We look forward to the Eternal City shot as she has never been shot before. Thank God MM will be there to keep you out of serious trouble.

Caput Mundi, baby!

LOL,

Great colour contrast and POV. I would have picked a more evocative title.

Oh, they're there, alright. I was sitting across the street and had to wait for breaks in traffic to get the shot

Thanks, Andre. It is an entry for a camera club competition with the theme "Song and Artist" so I wanted this title anyway :-]

I was going to add - Saskatchewan is thick with old farmhouses, leftover from the days of the 1/4 section homestead. Farms get bigger, the rural population declines, and the result is ghost towns and abandoned farmsteads. Very sad (and between abandoned cisterns, rotted floors and falling-down barns, a bit dangerous to explore).

Nice place. I prefer the colour over the B&w, but but the sky turned out better in the monochrome shots.

This is a stunning shot. I tried cropping the right edge off a bit, just to the white spark dealies, and I think it helps to balance it a bit. Unless you don't WANT it balanced, of course :0]

My thought exactly, although water skiing becomes a bit problematic. The motor is completely silent. My nephew started it at one point and took us in a lazy circle, and my only sense of movement was that the moon started drifting across the sky. It was a bit disorienting for a moment!

The only bad things were the number of hangovers suffered by the overindulgers of the night before, of which this writer was, fortunately, not one. :-]

Thanks, Andre and everyone else who commented. I have to say that I have never before this shot found ants to be beautiful. Normally, well... I squish 'em. But they really are quite exquisite, aren't they? I still don't want them making a mess of my damned lawn, however....

On the assumption that the mice can speak neither english, french, nor cat-onese, I did them using graphics. Which they appear to be ignoring. I should also like to point out that our cats are very effective at controlling the local songbird population - always a good thing at 4:30 in the morning. Now if they could only do something about the damned crows...
