Hi David! Haven't seen you around for a while!!! Just thought that I would let you know how much more I like the crop... what great framing. For me, it's a very unique shot, with creative framing, that makes it stand out. Unfortunately this was a post picture crop and you can tell by the amount of noise (why is it intentional???) ... but if you could frame the shot like this in camera with some Velvia... well, it could be sold to many magazines.

Beautiful colors and sharpness David. I am not sure about the composition but that is very personal. It is sure an original one. Well done.

Oh my, but he is too cute and you have done a great job with a pose. I think you did a fine job with his muzzle. If you shoot his muzzle a bit underexposed and then scan it, you might have a bit easier of a time if you can edit it in photoshop or another editing program. It seems that it is easier to try and adjust if it is underexposed rather than having the light brighter. Your DOF here is perfect. I really like the big forground with the grass. It is a nice frame.

Thank you for your comment on my flower, Alone. I do like the d100 a lot. It has been a great camera thus far. I started on an N80, which I liked a lot also. Just spent too much on film. I just bought a new lens. It is a Nikon 28-105 with Silent Wave and Vibration reduction. It is a fabulous lens and I have noticed a nice improvement in sharpness when using the lens zoomed in. I have the extender for it also.

Looking forward to more shots in your portfolio David!

Sarah, thank you so much for the help. I'd love for you to email the one you sharpened if it wouldn't be too much bother. With regard to the lighting & white blaze on the horse's face....it's definitely harder to shoot white horses, horses with a white blaze (like this one), and definitely tough to shoot black horses.

I can definately see the difference between the one on my desktop and what it appears I posted here. Hmm, not sure if that is related to the color issue I have as I can notice that also. Would be happy to email the one I changed to you if you like.

Hi David, I notice that the colors are very washed out when I post. I started a thread on this in the forum and got a couple of suggestions, but I still really notice it. I have not noticed a problem with sharpness.

I really like this photo. I like your composition with the horse to the right and the colorful leaves in the left. You did a great job with lighting especially with the horses white face.

I took the photo and sharpened it a bit with a photoshop plugin to see if it loses something when I upload it. (I am curious about it. Some of the suggestions people gave me were to try saving for the web if using a photo editor. Also, (pardon if you know this) each time you save a jpeg file, you will lose quality. Anyway, lovely picture!

The composition is good, but focus seems to be on the pole and not
on the horse, which is soft. The background could have been more
blurred, perhaps with a faster lens.

I can't believe how much sharpness is lost on my photos during the upload process. I must be doing something wrong.

David - normally, it would be preferable to see the dog's feet, too. But for this picture, that noble head rising out of the cloud of white fur is perfect. Good job.

You're right about the hot spot, but it's a pretty small area relative to the rest of the image. Maybe you could dodge that area in Photoshop or whatever program you use.

If you're not happy with the scan, try it again Dave. I'd love to see the finished product, as this does look a tad soft and the chest is blown out. Very pretty dog, though, with great DOF to pull her away from the background and make her the subject. That one ear sticking up is priceless!

Jamie, yes I agree. I'm not sure what happened during the upload this time. I noticed the color cast as well. I'll probably pull it back and try again. The original doesn't have the cast and it's sharp as a tack. Scanners and computers....Arggghhhh!!

Its a lovely puppy portrait, the colour cast needs a bit of work though.

Thanks for taking a look Bob. I'm really disappointed in the quality of the scan though. It seems to have lost a lot of sharpness during the upload for whatever reason. The white seems a bit hot on her chest also. Oh well, I'm too tired to fuss with it tonight. Maybe I'll edit it when I have some time.

I love the DOF you manage with all your photos... the grass blurs at just the right moment and gives a wonderful backdrop for the intertwined trees. I think I would have liked a little more room on the right, so that the trees didn't feel so squished against the side of the frame. Great detail and well executed.
I've posted the first of my Velvia dog shots and would love your input!

The colours do seem a little over bright here... but it works. The rust colour of Travis makes him stand out from the rest. You know I can't resist these Golden shots!

Your DOF is fine. Any more and the background would start to be distracting. Both the dog's eyes and muzzle look sharp (on this monitor) and that's where most people mess up these photos. Great shot.
