Excellent photograph of your best friend. My best friends are two Jack Russell Terriers. I will enter some of their photos in the future. I have hundreds. Lighting on Molly is perfect. Good use of DOF and colors warm and accurate. Thanks for your comments on Yellow Rose. You will do well with flowers. A few tips. Use a tripod. Large f stop for best DOF. Breezes are killers. Bracket for detail in the highlights. I usually have Skipper (9 1/2) and Calli (! 1/2) along when I photograph. They are patient with me. Molly is beautiful.

Nice dog. One thing about a dog is that you always know where you stand. I would prefer to crop some off the left and also try to get a three quarter view with eyes looking toward cameraa. This is a beutiful subject and worth the time and effort. Overall, this still is a nice image of the dog with good exposure and detail. Regards, Allen

Love the sharp detail in your friend's coat next to the out of focus background... he really stands out against the green. I have two goldens myself, and I think you've done a nice job of capturing a golden moment. One thing that I find a distraction (although I always forget to do it myself!!!) is the collar. Whenever taking shots of my dogs I try to remember to take the collar off to let the lines of their hair flow naturally and to not have the collar breaking the neck line. Still, a great capture, and unless your dog has a lot of patience for posing, this is a shot you should be very proud of! I've just recently uploaded two shots of my little attempts at dog photography... I would love it if you checked them out!
PS- Great choice of Velvia here... the colours are amazing.
