Thank you, Jim. I see your point about negative space. I appreciate the constructive advice!

Dawn - I took all my aquarium pics without flash, you saw the best one (the jellyfish). I put my camera against the glass and used auto settings, so I can't really help you on the settings part. I knew it would be a really slow shutter speed, though, so of course try to hold it steady. Having it against the glass helps with this and also cuts out glare from other people taking shots with flash, too.

My others were not so hot. I'll try to upload some more to show you what I mean. I found my better ones were the ones of the slower moving fish (to cut out the blur created from the long shutter time). And taking pics of fish swimming really close to the glass/camera picked up more movement than if the fish were back several more inches.

Hope this all made sense and helps!

Lori

What a cutie! I love the colors in this shot, it creates a wonderful mood. I agree with Russ, the pink really sets it off and brings the focal point to her beautiful face. I only wish it was a bit sharper, but I still love it!

Too common, my ass! I've never taken one like that, and I'm sure if you have, you were excited the first time you did it too!!

Nice shot, Dawn. It would certainly be a favorite of my portfolio.

Dawn - I love these photos from Garden of the Gods! I've been there once, before I bought my camera. You make we want to return with my Canon now! Beautiful shots! PS - I guess you are a climber too, to get to the top of those rocks!!!

Thank you all for your comments. John - that's a great compliment, you flater me Chris - I wish I had other aquarium photos to share, the others were very blurry. I feel very lucky to have this one!

Dawn - I tried a trick I read in a photo. book - hold the camera right against the glass. I guess it cuts out some of the blur from the aquarium glass. Seemed to work in this case. My others (with faster swimming fish) were not this clear. Great that we use the same camera, I can't wait to look through your portfolio, I'm off to do that now! Sorry for the delay replying to your question.

Maarten - Thank you!

Hans,

Christoffer was beautiful and you captured such a precious moment with your wife. Sometimes we fail to see how such a tragedy could be allowed to occur. I know eventhough his time with you was limited, he touched your life forever. Your picture is now one of my favorites too.

May peace be with you and your wife,

Lori

Hey, I recognize those camels!

Hi, Dawn! I went to Garden of the Gods in 1997. Beautiful place. Nice framing on this shot.

What a cutie! Your description of what caught your son's gaze, makes the picture even more touching. I agree about the definition under his chin, and I think I would like his lips a bit more focused as well. He has such beautiful eyes!

I couldn't figure the angle on this one at first. Very interesting! I agree that the fuzz is a little distracting, but I still like the shot. (this looks exactly like my kitty, too!)

Interesting. I was trying to figure out why the kid looked so funny in the thumbnail, ha. (I love fairies, by the way). The lighting on the brach above the fairy seems to bright. And I agree, I'd like to see it with more detail and a little more in focus. Cute idea!

Are these colors for real? Or were they added in? Either way--beautiful!

I agree, I think a picture of the first hook actually being inserted would be a great "decisive moment" shot, too. This picture almost makes me feel the adrenaline rush this guy must be having. Thanks for posting!

Very interesting. I saw your tulip photo, so had to check out your other work as well. I think this is my view of a black light example. I'll have to check out that link, too. Very impressive start here at usefilm! One qustion, what type of film did you use for this?

Ah, the bug (and the thumnail view) fooled me with those "false eyes" on his back. Nice angle.

Oh, how cute! I love it when dogs do this. Great that you captured it. I only wish his adorable face was a bit more focused.
