OK Doug , I think I have it narrowed down. Is this your place? Thanks for indulging my shameless promotion of these aerial shots. MY building is just north of Soldier Field in the Chicago picture and is the group of 3 high rises at 12'o clock to the stadium.

If you lived here you'd be home by now |

Dear Mark,
1. I live in a high rise condo quite a bit east in Waikiki by Diamond Head!
2. Re: Your 'Bio Pic' ... I hope no one pulls the 'Pin' on you ...
Keep shooting man and I do have relatives living in Westchester and Cicero BTW!
P.S. ... 'Soldiers Field' stadium is very clear and evident!

Hey Doug,
Thanks! Never been to Honolulu but I did fly over last month on a trip from Maui to Kauai. Here's my cloud covered shot but still not bad. Cheers,

Thank you very much for sharing, Mark. Your approach makes a lot of sense (and the results obviously prove you right). It means, though, that I did everything wrong again on my flight coming back from Japan today :-(( But I am sure I will be traveling again no later than next week and I?ll give it a try.
Thanks again fro sharing.

I do very little post process other than a levels adjustment and here I also did a little correction for color. This shot did not benefit from much sharpening as it was pretty sharp to begin with. No crop. The actual exposure values were f/9, 1/180 @ISO 200 46mm. The key is to shoot Aperture priority in the f/8-11 range and make sure you are the correct distance and angle to the window. I shoot about 4-6 inches away and off angle to the window in 2 planes (both horizontal and vertical.) Tilt the lens down and to the left or right but never square to the window. That's it! The camera shoots right through even the scratchiest windows. Here's NYC shot right into the sun in the early morning on the same flight from Chicago.

Now that is breathtaking, Mark. Wonderful shot. I never seem to be that happy in and out of Chicago. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I always try to have an aisle seat.
So, how do you work with scratched airplane windows? Special post processing or something you do while taking the photo?
Congratulations for this outstanding photo.
