About
The Cigar Box Cherished memories and words of love hide like dreams Tucked away neatly in a special place made for rainy days And broken hearts To remeber is too painful, to forget is far too empty The letters cry out to be read over and again The pain helps tell you you are still alive The heart pounding rush remembered as each one was first opened Recalling budding dreams in the springtime of love Soft petaled promises that blew away on the four winds of time Where did that destiny go to hide? Has it gone to weep in somber solitude behind the moon? Where is that fire blossom in our hearts? Can sweet breath ever blow new life to the embers? As I trace my fingetips across your loving words to me Knowing your sweet hands once graced each page Hands that I long to feel again upon my face The letters like raindrop gemstones, each one more precious than the last I can no longer count the tears that fall in silence onto the pages Crisp and pure white as a virgin January snowfall They had sustained me through a bleak age of darkness Read in aching silence beneath the candle glow Your words echo for miles in my empty heart tonight Do they still ring as true to you as they do to me? And is this the beginning, or the end of a chapter Of a storybook love affair With so many pages left unwritten And longing to be read? ©Brian McGaffic 9/22/05
