I love this picture.
It doesn't make me think that all of India has beggers. This is what you saw. If you post a picture of a kitten, it doesn't mean there are only kittens in India.
Beautiful!

A wonderfully frank shot of a typical Indian fellow oin about his daily business.
Well composed (Though i would like to have seen more of his surroundings) and perfectly exposed.
With regard to the comments of Debarshi, im afraid your statements are just not true. This is indeed a typical scene from India. Althouh i have never visited, my wife lived in Mumbai for a year and i have therefore obviously seen her fotos of her time there.
India is not at all the worlds 4th largest economy (It is in fact 12th. http://www.corporations.org/system/top100.html) and while these statistics can be taken with a rain of salt, India does have the worlds 2nd largest population, the majority of which live in rural poverty. Obviously there is a disparity somewhere.
While we all want to see our home countries in the best light, they all have their problems. My home counrty of UK would be near the top of the list.

I think this is a wonderful portrait study... the character of this man, from his posture, to his frail body is truly amazing. You've really captured something in this portrait... the exposure is perfect, the colours eye-catching. Like you said, he is clean, well taken care of, and it's a good shot. It's something that someone in Vancouver can't go a day without seeing as well.

I'm sure sure of the point behind the comments, "for a responsible photographer you should show the world both sides of India" and "I sencerly hope you didnt see only beggers in India"
This is my fourth post and my first from India. How would anyone "show both sides" with one shot?
I might understand an objection to a portfolio only showing negative images of your country, but why categorize and criticize my perceived "view of India" based on a single photo?
I don't consider this image negative in any way - this guy and his clothes are spotlessly clean, there is no filth on the ground, the sun is shining and he happens to be begging, something no one in India could possibly go long without seeing.

The kind of India I want to show is there in my portfolio. THere are always two sides to a coin , both good and bad, I think for a responsible photographer you should show the world both sides of India. Its not only about beggers, we are the 4th largest economy in the World. I sencerly hope you didnt see only beggers in India, you must have seen more than that !

fine capture of the texture of this man's skin dressed in his rather austere clothing. well done.
the idea behind a photographer's work is to show how that individual sees this or that part of the world. beggars on the street are simply a reality in india. anyone who's been there can clearly see this. what image of india do YOU want the world to see?
warmest regards ~ james
