Nice photo and tribute info. I like the angularity in contrast to the soft edges of the bass and puckered lips of musician! The wood grain of the bass really catches the eye as well.
Here is site info for renowned jazz photog, Herman Leonard, who was living in New Orleans, specifically in the Lakeview area, which is now well submerged in water. He lost most of his life's work over the last 10 years and his family is endangered due to very sick child, India, who is severely disabled with cerebral palsy and microcephaly. Although she is 10 years old, she is not able to walk, talk or feed herself, and requires 24-hour care. A lot of the equipment that is used on a daily basis they were forced to leave behind and it must be replaced as soon as possible. http://jazzcornertalk.com
The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC has honored Herman Leonard by housing his entire collection in the permanent archives of musical history. http://www.hermanleonard.com

Thanks for your comment and support...i think they mentioned the instrument replacement because music was their livelihood....many people don't realize how many jazz/blues musicians live in poorer areas and tho' some of them may be recognized by name, they aren't living the highlife of pop stars...many are older citizens just getting by...

Sounds like basic survival is more of an issue than replacement instruments. We all do and have done what we can, but I think you have done a sterling job of showing us opportunities we may not have been aware of. My hat, if I had one, would be off to you, Gayle, for you beautiful efforts.

Dear Gayle, Like the vintage look you added to this shot. It looks old with a modern twist I think. TTYS, Mark

Really interesting shot, Gayle, and amazing job with the vintage effect! I like the tension in this from the off-kilter composition and from the musician's face being partially obscured in the shadows.

An excellent tribute it is Gayle.
I've been following the devastating aftermath of Katrina on the news. My prayers go out to all those suffering.
God Bless Rina
