I like the composition with the arch support taking up almost the whole left side of the frame and the wedge of the structure to the right.

A composite I'm afraid, Carsten! I only had one chance at this as the viaduct is around 300 miles from my home and we were just passing through. It was an awful day, weatherwise, and the original shot was extremely dull ~ not what I wanted at all! Here's the original shot as it came out of the camera? Thanks for your kind comments! Best regards, Chris

Another example of your excellence in composition. And the sky is really great (too good the composite... or was it such a dramatic sky in reality ?) Regards Carsten

and you shoot at it very well; I have a similar subject (may suppose the same constructors!) near my home photographed in a way that eliminated the sky so I put the concept of Cage in the photo; you may be interested in it; The cage is the title months ago

Excellent angle to show the depth of this structure. I like how it extends into the distance and leads the eye up to the clouds, very nicely captured.

it's an amazing structure Chris, more for it's location than anything. I've got a 21 shot panoramic of the 3 peaks and the bridge somewhere....
I was going to take Den and Margaret up there when they came up but the logistics were too tricky with people coming from 4 directions. Next time we'll sort it out properly! Often best if everyone's in the same hotel/near by so you can get a proper start. Got a place in mind if we ever get enough UF UK people up for a meet - about £10 a night and a great kitchen, and near Harrogate in the Dales.
Never taken a shot so close so nice to see a new perspective

Tim, this is a railway bridge carrying the 78 mile long Settle to Carlisle line. The bridge has 24 arches, is 104 feet high and 440 yards long. Construction started in 1869 and took seven years to complete. Thanks for your comment!! Best regards, Chris

Hi Chris, Is this a bridge or is this built for water transport similar to what the Romans built to maintain irrigation and other water needs for a community? Is it in fact a Old Roman structure or more contemporary? Your capture of this intriguing structure really brings out the impressiveness and size.
