If you look at my portfolio you will see that I like to work with short DOF. It's what I like. :-)
It gives more depth to an image. But I also realize that not everybody will like it this way.

Excellent shot showing the beautiful translucent nature of these orchids. The high-key effect is very good indeed.
I also like your choice of empty white space inside the frame. It really adds a lot compositionally.
One sugestion would be to try this with a smaller aperture and more DOF.
