Howdy Randy,
Am very glad that you enjoy my images. I convert my slides by scanning them in on a Nikon CoolScan IV Scanner, then importing them into Photoshop Elements and work with them to bring them back to how the slide looks. The real key, I think, is starting with a great image for the original slide. That way I don't have to do much "recovery" work at all.
