About For years, the skeletal "Monarch of Mesa Arch" presided over the view into the canyon. This last February, I returned to find the "Monarch" was dethroned. Cut to the ground. Why or by whom, I do not know. I do know that I'll miss the "Monarch" though.....

Howdy Nicole, That's great that your Mesa Arch shots came out well! That is one tough place to get good color saturation/detail because of the large variations in light.
The "Monarch of Mesa Arch" is the skeletal looking plant on the right side of my posted image. When we were there in August, that plant was just a 2" tall nub hidden in the cracks of the sandstone. Someone cut it down late last year. It was different because that plant was no longer there to be able to include in the image.

Mark, explain this to me. I don't understand what you are describing. How was it different than when I saw it? (By the way I just came across my Mesa Arch pics- they look great but I didn't scan em all in yet)

Great composition! I love the tunnel view into the background and the color saturation is wonderful. I think I would like to see the foreground a bit lighter so as to be more visible, bit with the background lighting it's difficult to capture that wide a range of light. And also I expect while viewing the slide as a projected image that the foreground is more visible. And maybe you like it best just as it is anyway. It certainly is a great image as it is!
