eric, very interesting. i was recently wondering how i would go about shooting fireworks. i came to the conclusion that the same method used for lightning should work. unfortunately i didn't get a chance to try it on the 4th. but, thank you for validating my guess.

this came out very nicely, btw. i was curious how much "streaking" there would be and this looks just right. i like the vague ghost of the building below too.

take care,
tom

Beautiful shot with a great vintage camera. Proovia is my favorite all-time slide film. The colors are superb.

Thanks Darlene. I think this is a case where film still has the edge on digital. It's really just a matter of using the tripod and cable release and then pointing a normal to wide angle lens towards the display with a slow, ISO 100 or below film or sensor setting, and an aperture of f/8-f/16 depending on the ISO and holding the shutter open on bulb for anywhere from 1-5 seconds. There's still the element of luck, but you should get at least a few usable shots during the course of a display. I shot 60 frames and there's probably only a dozen, ~20%, that I'd say I'm happy or very happy with.
