About My first lightning shot!!

While I was sitting at my computer last night looking at pictures on Usefilm, I noticed a flashing going on outside. I took my camera and tripod to the front porch and set up. It really wasn't much of a show, but I did happen to have the shutter open for this one.

Very nice lightning Mark. I've always wanted to try this. You have a beautiful example here. I like the color of the sky and clouds. Great job.

Superb capture Mark, these are so difficult to capture. I find that the lightning around here only strikes in the evening and usually the evening when you have to get up early and cannot get out storm chasing lol

Best wishes,
Steve

Excellent capture, Mark! The thing is, you were there with the proper equipment and timing to get the shot, in effect you made your own luck! Well done!
Dave.

A wonderful capture of these two bolts! I have always wanted to do a series on lightning, but am afraid my camera will get wet in the process! :)

Thanks, Larry. Funny that I didn't even notice! It was a lucky catch. There weren't but 2 bolts like that in the 15 minutes I was out there. I just happened to catch one of them.

Thanks for the comment, Riny. I did use a tripod for the shot. It was my first time trying to shoot lightening and I found it to be about 10% skill and 90% luck. I set to shutter priority and set the speed to 10 seconds. I aimed and hoped and let the camera do the rest.

Like I said in the description, it really wasn't much of a show. In fact, there were only two bolts like this. I missed the first one and caught the second.

This is so beautiful. Not only did you capture a double banger but also managed to get a small vertical in the picture. Congratulations Mark.
