What an excellent comment,, Mohamed!! Yes I agree about the scale and space. Also, the architects have chosen a form of spatial and artistic architecture, for this area. You cannot appreciate it unless you've been there. This area was built on an ancient ley line. From the the Louvre, to the Arc d' Triomphe, and straight to the La defense area. A dead straight line.

Incredible to see as much modern style, in a city like Paris. I went there at the time of the bicentenial anniversary of the French revolution in 1989, I knew the existance of this place but we hadn't had time to stop there. Very beautiful composition Colin, love it perspective. Regards Claude

Very nice picture of La Defense, Colin. The effect really adds an additional impression to the photograph. It now looks like the architectural sketches they make before the real thing. Cheers, Markus

Thanks a lot for taking the time, Sally. I appreciate it.
To answer your questions - I gave the colours a bit more saturation, and experimented with the curves, using About six points on the linear graph, until the coulours of the reflections and people's clothes were as I required.
The central point, where the eye is drawn to, is the famous arc de triomph. This you can see clearly on my original, but it's hard to see at 200kb!
My unmodified original is in the comments below the image if you want to see it.

This is fantastic Colin - I love what you've done to it - was it really all just in curves? I like the perspective you've taken the shot from, I like the vanishing point, I like the way the colours in the sky are mirrored in the buildings and I really like the colours too - marvellous!

Thanks Gayle,
I see what you mean by Tokyo, but "la Defense", is very much french parisien! It was controversial when it was built in the '80s. Hence my title!
It could have kept me busy for a week instead of the hour I had there. Multi-coloured reflections from stylishly curved skyscrapers, with the 'cube' at its centre, a weird inside-out bulding, (have a look on the web). It lies in a perfect ley line through the magnifient arc de triomphe to the famous louvre museum. The reason I enhanced the reflected window colours, and people's clothing, was to try and emphasise, phtographically, the futuristic ambience of this amazing place.
I used curves in photoshop for this effect. But it doesn't come close to being there.
Here's the original.

I found no previous comments from me to you, Mr. Cartwright, although your name sounds familiar. Be that as it may you're right about Paris being marvelous, although we had some hard times there about ten years ago when our son in law, who was doing his post-doc there suffered from leukemia and we had to do the way Tel Aviv - Paris every few weeks. Fortunately a bone-marrow donor was found just in time and we celebrated our son in law's being re-born ten years after the bone-marrow transplant a few months ago. Your elaboration of La Defence is simply marvelous. It gives this place, which is marvelous in its own right, a further dimension. My "Memories from Paris 12" was captured not far from there. Tank you for your very generous comment on it. The distortion is in the original photo, as it was a reflection I took a photo of. Best regards, Rafi

You had some fun playing with this one, didn't you! Not my style at all but very well done. I'd like to take a panorama camera to La Defense or even stitch together an immersive 360-degree panorama in virtual reality... a fascinating area.

Wow! That shot is fantastic, Colin. I ran out of time to get to La Defense, thinking that I would return to Paris this summer and go then. However, now it is not looking hopeful that I will return anytime soon. I guess that goes to show that we have to grab opportunity when we can and not ever put it off to tomorrow.

I've just viewed your portfolio Mitchell. I could happily live with any of these evocative images framed in my house. These often take hours of work to get the effect just right. I think, like me, you utilise modern, digital technology, to make up for the fact that we can't paint! I can't see a poor effort amongst your work. Exellent.
