You are right - I totall agree re: having the guy exposed too - but only slightly, I would not show his entire face and body
however, I loooooove dead space and this was done intentionally - wanted to create the impression of someone looking into this space

Great effect you created here, love the athmosphere comming from the picture. Would be better even if the man reading his paper would be entirely in the frame, especially since the left side has a bit of dead space (the wall).
