I like to think of it this way.......the dragonfly was very patient with this lunatic getting all agitated and cheerful over a bug and pressing into his personal space!
Thanx for the comment

Wonderful photography .. great colours ..
It was quite difficult to get the right DOF .. that i can see at the head of the insect .. pity, because i can see your DOF was quite sufficient as you got all legs sharp ..

Sharp image with good colors. To improve the DOF on the wings of the dragonfly try to take a shot by using a tele lens.

Compliments

Well, my friend! First I have to thank for your comment and also that I totally agree with your thoughts! Man sometimes destroys what's perfect!

About photography, it's true. I've never studyed anything. About a year ago I starting posting photos and learning from what i see and read in people's comments! This is just a hobby (my favourite, I must say! lol

About your picture and portfolio, I also have to congratulate you! I are doing a very good work, and I wish the best!

regards to you, Miguel

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 5/14/2005
I did take a lot of pictures with small aperture even up to f16! :)
But im a sucker for minimal DOF!
And this lens is perfect for that!
The original image is not too tight I cropped it in PS when I saw the way the tail, wings and leave make a triangle so I thought it would be a good addition to the square image project

Oh .. Wow!!
A marvelous shot!
I like the vivid red, green and yellow in the picture!

Although I generally don't like the idea of cropping out any part of the dragonfly, your crop here works well, as the wings are blurred (or out of focus).

I wonder how it would look if you moved a step backwards and showed the whole dragonfly and more space on the right with a Sufficiently smaller aperture to bring the wings in focus! keep in mind that a normally considered small aperture (e.g. f/11) is not really small in macro photography; it still gives a limited dof.

Keep up the good work, Arwa.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful dragonflies ;)

David McClenaghan   {K:9481} 5/14/2005
Excellent work Arwa.
Like the crop a lot.
I think the effect of 'movement' in the wings is entirely due to the DOF.

If it was windy then the whole dragonfly and leaf would probably be blurred as the wings and body are relatively rigid when its sitting still. If one moves so does the other.

Check your shutter speed details by right clicking on the original file and look in the summary dialogue box. All your shooting details are in that section. Probably something like a 1/250th or a 500th I would guess. Which would have been enough to freeze the motion of the leaf and dragonfly.

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 5/14/2005
hi dirck! :)
I?ve only seen them in red!
the movement in the wings is caused by the breeze
Thank you for your comments my friend :)

I don?t know if it?s a male or a female!
until recently I was afraid of them now im running after them! lol
The movement that everyone seems to like is caused by the wind, it was quite breezy
Thank you linda :)

Excellent shot, Arwa! Nice and clear from head to tail, and I really like the way the wings fade off from the DOF - gives the impression that they are moving! You know, I have never seen a red dragonfly!

Great series of dragonfly photos! This is a nice conposition with it clinging to the diagonal leaf. Great colors and DOF, though the tops of it's wings are out of the frame, because of the DOF, it does not detract from the image. Nice work Arwa.
